Maintaining Stained Concrete

One of the biggest benefits of stained concrete is the appearance. While concrete may be tough, if you want to keep your stained surface looking shiny and new, you’ll need to give it some love here and there.

The good news is, stained concrete maintenance is generally simple and straightforward.

Interior Cleaning

Have an interior stained concrete floor? Like any hard floor, dust and dirty particles will be your biggest concern. Because of the glossy finish of stained concrete, dust can be particularly noticeable. Make sure to take care of that with a dust mop.

Using a wet mop or Swifter Wet Jet from time to time will help keep the proper shine.

If you have foot traffic bringing in some tougher stains such as winter salt, try a soap solution with ammonia.

Floor mats are your friend as well. Place one near the entrance of the room to cut down on any mess.

Exterior Cleaning

For exterior cleaning, sweeping will get the job done most of the time. You can also throw in the occasional power wash. Just make sure not to overdo it, or you may end up increasing the wear on the floor.

If you don’t have a power washer, you can use a scrub brush with medium strength bristles.

Do I Need a Touch Up?

To keep your stained concrete looking it’s best, you’ll need a touch-up every few years. The good news is, a touch up job is both quicker and cheaper than the initial application. The best way to know whether or not you need a professional maintenance job is to contact a professional.
